Making what you have work for you

Remember the 7 foot high windows? Bright summer sun blazing into a non air conditioned apartment made it necessary to purchase heavy dark, micro suede draperies for the living room. We were lucky to get them at half price, $39 for each panel.
The living room functions for both relaxation and study. We put the desk behind the loveseat so our student would not be always facing a wall. A bookshelf to the right holds books and binders. The large wicker trunk doubles as a coffee table and blanket storage. The white wicker tray holds the remotes and drinks and hides the broken top of the trunk. A small square wicker box from Ikea holds extra toiletries and can be used as a side table.
Our kitchen needed a big cleanup and a few inexpensive decorative items to make it feel homey. A baker’s rack was purchased to hold the microwave and a few other small appliances. Several kitchen items were purchased at the dollar store.
